The Human Resources department within Rainbow Chickens Limited, South Africa's largest processor and marketer of chicken, manages the movement of employees within the organisational structure on a daily basis.

Given the +-8500 strong employee base this is a massive challenge:



  • Employee Systems must be updated
  • Notifications must be sent to various parties such as the training manager
  • The employee must be added to the payroll
  • Access to facilities and IT systems must be arranged
  • Employee Systems must be updated
  • Approval must be obtained from various parties
  • Access to IT systems must be adjusted
  • Access to IT systems must be revoked
  • Outstanding money must be recovered by Payroll
  • All assets must be collected from the employee and asset registers updated
  • External providers (such as medical aid, pension/provident funds) must be notified
  • The process to recruit a new employee for the soon-to-be-vacant position must be started

To facilitate this and more, pilotfish implemented a series of integrated workflows using an internally developed workflow engine. These workflows seamlessly integrate to create an environment where employee changes are not a challenge anymore, but simply part of a bigger, controlled process.
